Many people who work with earth science can recall being drawn to it by a fascination with the wonderful opportunity to discover and admire the processes of nature that continue to shape our planet. There are many different ways to apply earth science. Some choose to pursue geophysics as a profession, to try and understand the earth through various remote-sensing technologies. Others may become the teachers who kindle that initial spark of interest in earth science for their students.
One of our prime obligations is helping to renew this important resource of practicing earth scientists by working to attract other dedicated students to this exciting field who will ultimately become strong advocates of earth science. You can probably remember your personal goals, if you are one of these dedicated people, we want to offer you encouragement and an opportunity to obtain some financial support.
Each Spring, the Geophysical Society of Alaska has scholarships available for deserving junior or senior Alaska undergraduates or graduate students studying geophysics or earth science at Alaska universities. Consideration will also be given to Alaska residents studying geophysics or earth science at outside universities. The amount of each scholarship this year will be up to $2,000. Individual merit will dictate the exact amount of each award based on the consensus of our Scholarship Committee.
